The real estate have advised me to get quotes to repair it. But who on earth do I contact about this kind of repair? Kitchen renovators? They all seem geared towards very expensive complete renovations, not small repairs… is there any other option???
PS I am not able to do it myself.
I’m really sorry, because you seem like a nice person who has the seemingly amazing ability to spell, but there really isn’t much you can do to fix a burnt countertop, depending on what type it is. If it’s solid surface, such as Corian, there may be hope, but if it’s plastic laminate (Formica) then there isn’t anything anyone can do but replace the entire thing. A countertop company or a small cabinet shop might be able to replace the top, but it would probably be more expensive than what the landlord could negotiate.
All I can offer is to throw yourself on the mercy of the landlord when it is time to move because there is simply no way to fix damaged high pressure laminate. If you’re lucky, it’s an older kitchen and it’s time to replace the countertop anyway. Are the seams at the backsplash and the front in good shape? Did you do a good walk through when you moved in and did you note all imperfections and wear in the countertop? If so, then, you could explain what happened, and hope that they’re aware of the existing wear and were expecting to replace it soon anyway. I really wish I had better news or options for you, but plastic laminate is resistant to a lot of things, but extreme heat isn’t one of them.
You can call a handyman or a cabinet shop, but they’re going to tell you the same thing, I’m afraid. This is one of those cases when honesty might be the best solution. I know, weird, huh?
