im wiccan, moving into a new apartment with my hubby and baby. i spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and i want to design something that i can not only cook in, but also do spells and ETC in. my kitchen also doubles as my laundry room… so im having a hard time coming up with ideas to accommodate all three. colors, plants, decor ideas… anything would be great! thanks in advance and brightest blessings! )O(
I never thought of my kitchen as "Wiccan themed" lol.
I guess for me, first comes function, then comes form. First I figure out a way to make everything convenient and easy to work with, because if I don’t I will have a hard time keeping it clean. It’s got to be easy to grab what I need (prioritize most-used things in most-convenient places) and it’s got to be easy to put things back. Then, once it is neat and organized, I can figure out how to make it pretty. That’s pretty much my decorating philosophy, though.
I rent a small apt. so my kitchen is not very big, maybe 9-X-9 feet. So first organization and storage space was important. Against 1 wall I have counter-sink-counter, and above it are the cabinets. I put a wall-to-wall shelf, only about 6 inches deep, about 6 inches below the cabinets and I keep all my herbs on it in small jars. I like using small jars, or mason jars, baby food jars, etc. to sort and label herbs.
I on another smaller wall I have a shelving unit and I keep a small shrine to the Goddess which includes a red candle, a tiny censer for cones and a small bowl for offerings. I usually light the candle and pray when doing domestic chores, and make an offering in the morning.
I removed the doors to my upper cabinets… they live under my bed (I rent, not own). I just felt the doors made the space seem more enclosed, I like the country-style decor, so the open shelving cabinetry lends to that. Makes it very easy to just grab things, and since it’s open I have to keep it organized. If/when the day comes I move from here I can just put them back.
I don’t keep plants in the kitchen because right outside the door I have a big screen porch where I grow my herbs.
Most walls are antique white, but on the space between the wall-to-wall herb shelf, behind there, between the counter & the cabinets, I painted it a white faux treatment like old style country clap boards. The shelves and shelving units are a gray-blue and there are grayish-green colors in the decor. The floor is vinyl but looks like hard wood. I’ve been meaning to get around to stenciling something around the top as a border, for like the last 6 months. One day I’ll get to it.
And my pride and joy is my Disneyworld magnet collection on my fridge.
