Can you please give me an idea how I should set those tiles, so they look good? I’m afraid if I use the wrong setting it will be overwhelming.

Also – what color should I use for floor tiles to match?

I’d also appreciate advice on furniture color – I was thinking of using a counter imitating wood, since I hate granite imitations.

Hi Lauren thanks for your answer and explanations, however I didn’t quite understand what you mean by east west rows – I’m not sure if it’s my English or my lack of knowledge about interior design. Did you mean I set them up like bricks? Also, did you mean I make 1/3 purple, 2/3 white, or did you mean I try a "gradient effect" with those tiles?

Could you do something like this, in which you create something like an elliptical pattern with the purple tiles? You could also do the same thing with squares, triangles, whatever you like. Lay them like this where W=White and P=purple:

If you don’t like this, you could create a wave pattern:

You can pretty much go with any color cabinet and flooring. I would lean toward a darker cabinet if the counter top will imitate wood (usually these are lighter wood). Regardless, contrast the two. If the counter top is light, go with dark cabinets and then lighten up again for the floor.

You got great advice above, that you lay the tiles out on the floor or counter top first to play with the pattern and placement. Once you’ve found a design you like, then lay the tile.

The brief was simple! make it stand out and make it different.

We wanted to create something that was really fluid, something that played with all of the people at the show not just those on the stand, so by creating the floor to ceiling open bookshelf if people were walking past it appeared as though they were on the stand, creating movement and asking people to engage with the stand.
Next we added a coffee machine (Essential) this was part of the brief, we want ted bring people in to the space for the coffee so that staff could engage with them and showcase the creation and workmanship.
The wall of tall joinery was the main feature of the stand, this element was multi functional and featured the V-Zug cooking appliances, remote controlled lift up doors that open up the sink & scullery area. The front section of this area is designated to general cooking and living whilst the back section houses a second fridge, dishwashers, the in wall coffee machine and microwave.
The island unit was made from Essa stone from Laminex with the V-Zug induction cooktops & recessed induction wok.

This stand was judge to be the best in its field and size at the show.
